Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.
Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.
The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.
Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.
Apollyon Review
Tina's Thoughts
I swear, I don't know how Jennifer L. Armentrout finds the energy to keep creating amazing books after amazing books. Someone needs to bottle it up and spread it around the world. Think of all the peace we can achieve. But in all seriousness, I've never met a JLA book I didn't like!
Apollyon proves to be another exciting installment in the Covenant series, bringing in more action and more romance then ever before, leaving us breathless and begging for the final conclusion.
I gotta tell ya, some of the hardest reviews I have to write are the ones that have to be spoil-free and the ones that I'm most passionate and excited about. Which are usually all of JLA books.
I always find myself struggling with the right words to convey how much I adored this book and this series, but without giving away to much. I am just such a fan of everything this women puts to pen and in complete awe of her never ending imagination and creativity. She plots in her evil mad genius ways and is an unflinching force when it comes to writing these remarkable characters.
There is a lot that happens in this book, but not all of our questions were answered. The biggest questions are still to come for the last hurrah. Almost like Jennifer gave us yummy appetizers to sink our teeth into before the main course is revealed. And the best part? We aren't left hanging with our mouths open gasping for air. Evil cliffy be gone!
Plot wise, everything gets stepped up a notch. Everyone is running around doing damage control and grasping at straws to figure out how to stop the First from destroying the entire world while trying to tame the Gods long enough for Alex to come out of the dark side and join the side of the sane. All the while Aiden is festering with guilt for putting Alex through one of her greatest fears. So in short, lot of drama, lots of angst and lot and lots of swoon worthy goodness all for our reading pleasure.
The mythology also takes a front seat in this book even more so then the previous ones. We get to see some new Godly faces and one of them shocked the Hades out of me! I've always been a huge fan of mythology and love the way Jennifer handles this lore. It's fun and unpredictable and it constantly keeps me on my toes.
All the characters are just so amazing. Some seemed to grow in new and different ways. The atmosphere is more dangerous and dire and it's like they can taste it in the air. They are all preparing for the best but also expecting the worse. For Seth fans, he's in this book...but he's not at the same time. And for Aiden fans, well, the man just keeps getting better and sweeter then ever. It's amazing to witness his playful and feisty side opposed to his ever present stubbornness and control. I laughed out loud at his protectiveness in this book considering who and what Alex is. So adorable!
Alex has always awed me, she's such an incredible protag and the perfect character to go on this journey with. Her laid back personality and sarcastic charm mixed with her kickass abilities is nothing short of brilliance. We also get to see an old friend that leaves a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart. Those scenes really add beautifully to the story line.
As for the romance, well, lets just say those were my favorite moments and I gave each scene an extra read three or five times before moving on. It was just so dame sweet and curl-your-toes romantic that I couldn't get the stupid-grin off my face. Loved will never be a strong enough word.
And last but not least, the ending might not have ended on a cliffhanger, but it was a different kind of brutal that was very hard to read. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.
Bottom line, with the risk of sounding like a broken record on repeat, I absolutely loved this book. The Convent series is one of the most addicting and heart pounding books I ever read. It's fun and funny and I always find myself bouncing with pure joy when ever I get a chance to read these books early and end up with the hugest grin on my face and a big pit of worry in my belly when it's all said and done.
This is the stuff that makes reading, magic! Action punched and pulse pounding madness. Apollyon is the forth installment in the covenant series and the best one to date. It will have you on your knees begging for the final book; Sentinel!!
Team Chat on Apollyon (Covenant #4) Book
1.Was Apollyon everything you hoped for?
Amber: That and more! I took my time and savored the story as I didn't want it to end. I just love Aiden (yes, I am Team Aiden the whole way!) So much happens in this book which really made it hard to put down.
Arlene: Absolutely!! There was so much action and romance that when I wasn't wiping the steam from my glasses, I was falling off my chair in excitement. I really enjoyed this installment as it leaves a good amount of conflict resolution needed for the final book, yet at this point I really feel like the characters have come so far. Great installment and I can't wait for the final book!
2. Is Jennifer still in time out?
Crystal: You bet your bookies she is! Yes Apollyon wasn't a huge cliffy like Deity but it was still painful! I have a feeling with so many books being released this year she will stay in time out for a long long time =P
Tina: Haha, well, she did give us an epic ending that didn't involve an evil cliffy for this book, so I guess she can come out. IF she continues to play nice;-)
3. Were you surprised by the ending?
Amber: Oh yes! And...I will leave it at that.
Crystal: I was totally blindsided by it. I never would have thought the story would go in that direction, but it was a brilliant move by Jennifer and it added a whole new depth to the already amazing storyline.
4. Team Aiden, Team Seth or Team Leon? Has your Team changed since the first book?
Arlene: ~sigh~ I've been Team Seth from the beginning, but HOT.DAMN!! Aiden and Alex are amazing together!! At this point, I just want Seth to be okay. I still have a soft spot in my heart for him, but you can't deny chemistry and love, even I know that. :)
Tina: Nope, Team Aiden all the way baby!
5. If there was a spin off planned which character would you like to see take the lead? (Hint Hint Jennifer!)
Amber: Oh man! Tough question!!! Gah! I love the idea of a spin off though. I'm game!! As far as a character...I'm gonna have to agree with Tina on that. I think introducing a new characters, same world.
Tina: That's a hard question since I'm not sure how Jennifer is gonna end these books. But I wouldn't mind seeing a companion to the series. New characters, same world. Could be great.
6. Do you think there is any saving Seth?
Arlene: I sure hope so!!! I'm wearing his shirt, aren't I? I tend to be loyal to the characters I fall for and as long as he doesn't do something ridiculously stupid, I'll still wave his flag and root for his team. I just think he's conflicted and confused right now, so if JLA wants to send him over to me for a well needed hug... I'm here. :)
Crystal: I am with Arlene, I really hope there is hope. He is such a great character and even though he has done some pretty messed up things he doesn't deserve to be cast off just because he has outside influences using him. I want so very badly for him to have some kind of a HEA. I no longer think it will be with Alex, but I have seen several characters (Adrian anybody) that have gone through this same type of situation being the other guy and they always come out okay. He definitely needs a hug lol!
7. What was your favorite scene in Apollyon?
Amber: These questions are tough. There were so many scenes that I loved. I'm going to say the scene where Aiden and Alex have a conversation between the bars (that is all I'm saying. Can't give the goodies away) He basically told her he would never give up on her. His unconditional love just blew me away in this book. (BTW that is on page 13)
Arlene: I'd like to call it the "pool of desire" in the underworld. That was WOW!! I hit the replay button on that scene a few times. LOL
Crystal: My favorite would have to be when Alex snaps out of her "my Seth" fog. Even though I love Seth and all that whole My Seth thing was too much for me and when she had the "AHA" moment it was awesome. I also liked when Apollo kept popping in on Alex and Aiden lol! That man cracks me up!
Tina: The scene question is always the hardest to answer for me. I love ALL the Aiden scenes. Period. There are so many that are completely swoon-worthy I'm melting just thinking about it. But I also liked when they went to the underworld.
8. Which book did you pick to giveaway and why?
Amber: I'm giving away Deity (Covenant, #3) I loved the action and the scene we all had been waiting for (coughs) and that whopper of an ending, of course this was an easy decision for me!
Arlene: I'm giving away a copy of Half-Blood (Covenant #1). I loved that book!! It's the first in the series, and that's where my fandom began for Jennifer L. Armentrout. The book was fun and addicting and after reading the fourth installment, I'd like to stay that book one set the pace, but Armentrout had no issues in keeping the momentum going with the rest of the series.
Crystal: I am giving away Pure (Covenant #2). This book really took the series to a whole new level and this one is where I fell in love with Seth. I really fell into Pure and I don't think I have stopped falling yet. Jennifer is brilliant and this whole series needs an award like right now!
Tina: I decided to give away the Apollyon ARC. Fans will want to get their hands on this book early and who am I to deny them? Hehe. But seriously, it's an amazing installment to the series and I want a lucky fan to be able to get their hands on it as soon as possible:)
