Review & Giveaway: Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy, #1)Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan
Publisher: Random House for Young Readers
Release Date: Sept 11, 2012
Kami Glass loves someone she’s never met . . . a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born. She wasn’t silent about her imaginary friend during her childhood, and is thus a bit of an outsider in her sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale. Still, Kami hasn’t suffered too much from not fitting in. She has a best friend, runs the school newspaper, and is only occasionally caught talking to herself. Her life is in order, just the way she likes it, despite the voice in her head.
But all that changes when the Lynburns return.
The Lynburn family has owned the spectacular and sinister manor that overlooks Sorry-in-the-Vale for centuries. The mysterious twin sisters who abandoned their ancestral home a generation ago are back, along with their teenage sons, Jared and Ash, one of whom is eerily familiar to Kami. Kami is not one to shy away from the unknown—in fact, she’s determined to find answers for all the questions Sorry-in-the-Vale is suddenly posing. Who is responsible for the bloody deeds in the depths of the woods? What is her own mother hiding? And now that her imaginary friend has become a real boy, does she still love him? Does she hate him? Can she trust him?

My Thoughts:
What in the HALE just happened??!!  I have never been so infuriated over an ending before.  What happens in the last page of this book is just so just so UGH!  I have no words!!  I am so shocked right now!

The summary above gives you a pretty good idea of what this story is about.  We have Kami who is trying to figure out why the people in her town are scared to talk about the Lynburn family, the Lynburn boys who have just moved back to town, and a few other characters that are thrown in to help Kami on her quest to find the truth.  This definitely sounds like my typical read and it was to a point.  The first problem I had with it was the dialogue.  It took me a long time to feel comfortable reading the conversations that took place between the younger characters.  Kami never talks like a teenager and neither do her friends.  It almost felt to stiff.   After 1/3 of the book I just gave up and just went with it.

Another thing that bothered me was that some of the interactions between the characters just came out of left field.  At times it felt like I had stumbled on a page from another book because it just didn't fit with what was going on at the time.  I mean I liked the overall story I guess it was just all the side stuff that bugged me.  Like when Jared wouldn't touch Kami. By the end of the book I was screaming at them to just TOUCH each other!  I don't know so much of this story bothered me that I still can't quite get my thoughts together.  And I am staying far away from the ending.  I do not want to get started on that so yep moving on.

I think the author has a great way with words so don't get me wrong the writing itself was great..  I have a feeling I am going to be in the minority with this book because I have seen a ton of awesome reviews and ratings for it.  I know that it might seem a little strange to be giving away a copy of this book when my review is not a happy one, but I know a lot of people have really loved it and I really think people should at least try every book out for themselves to see if it is for them. My review is just my opinion and I would love nothing more than to give this one away to a good home =)
