Half Blood by Jennifer Armentrout

Summary blurb from Goodreads:
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
My Thoughts:
This book was awesome! I have to say that I think this may be my most anticipated sequel next year.
The story is about Alex, a half blood who is on the run with her mom from the Covenant. The Covenant is the only place that Alex has even known. She goes to school there to learn how to fight Daimons (blood sucking fiends who live off of the blood of pures and half bloods) and protect the Pure bloods, one being her mom. So when her mom wakes her up in the middle of the night to run her heart breaks but what can she do, it is her mom. Three years go by and then the unthinkable happens and Alex finds herself back in the one place she thought she would never see again. Problem with that is she didn’t exactly leave on good terms to begin with and now she has to prove herself worthy of the school and its program. Helping her along the way are of course the bad ass hottie Aiden, who happens to be a Pure and which causes angst to the extreme. Pures and half bloods are forbidden to have any type of relationship so yeah bring on the angst. Caleb her best friend is another fun aspect of the story and I found that his humor was always well placed and I felt like he was a great addition to the story and Alexs life. Lucian her stepfather, Marcus her uncle who is also the Dean of students, and Seth the umm well you will find out what he is when you read this round out this wonderful cast of characters and yes they each play a strong role that will have you guessing who is bad and who is good up until the very end.
My only observation is that this book resembles Vampire Academy somewhat. That being said I think the things that are similar are what make each series one of the best in the genre so no complaints from this end. I am eagerly waiting for next year when I can get my hands on the sequel and find out what happens to Alex and her new found…well yeah you have to read it!
