The Goddess War begins in Antigoddess, the first installment of the new series by acclaimed author of Anna Dressed in Blood, Kendare Blake. My Thoughts:
Old Gods never die…
Or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health.
Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra—an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god.
These days, Cassandra doesn’t involve herself in the business of gods—in fact, she doesn’t even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning.
Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with other of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these anti-gods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caricatures of their former glory. Athena will need every advantage she can get, because immortals don’t just flicker out.
Every one of them dies in their own way. Some choke on feathers. Others become monsters. All of them rage against their last breath.
The Goddess War is about to begin.
What happens when the Immortal start dying? You get some ticked off Gods who will stop at nothing to get back their immortality and a whole bunch of awesomeness!!
I loved loved loved this book! I am a huge fan of Greek Myth and this book brought something new and different that totally grabbed me.
Cassandra has always been able to see the future. She knows what side a quarter will land on she knows if her high school hockey team will win and she knows there will come a time when something big will happen and she won't have her Sight anymore. I really loved that she was open with Aidan, her boyfriend, and her best friend as well as her brother. I an not a fan of secrets so it made the story so much better for met that they all knew and accepted her for the way she was. Cassandra has a normal teenage life, well with the exception of her Sight but for the most part things are good. Until she finds out that her boyfriend is not who she thought he was and Gods start coming after her. She has something that everybody wants only no one really knows what that is only that in could save the Gods. Told in alternating POV's between Cassandra and Athena Antigoddess gives us a fresh and exciting new Greek Myth story that will blow your socks off.
I devoured every page of this book. I have never read a book by Ms.Blake but you can bet I will definitely pick another one up soon. Her writing is fantastic and she doesn't shy away from the hard stuff. I can't say I am exactly happy with the ending but I have hope that certain events will be righted because well I just couldn't go on otherwise. The fight scenes with the Gods were amazing! I usually sometimes skim over big fight scenes but I read every last word of these. They were brutal and gross and just what you would expect from Gods. Can you tell I am bouncing yet?? I don't mean to just gush and gush but I have been on the look for a book like this and I have finally found it!
I can't wait to read the sequel! I want to know more about every character and I am very curious how certain things will pan out. There is so much going on and I am fearful that Ms.Blake might not give me what I want, but I know that even if she doesn't I will still love the book.
