She’s searching for answers to her past. They’re hunting her to save their future.World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They've survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there. At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life. When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she's trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.
My Thoughts:
Already a big fan of Amy Plum's Revenant series, I couldn't wait to read her latest project, After the End. Once I read the blurb, I knew that I needed this book in my life, and while I had a couple of tiny issues with it, it still turned out to be a pretty amazing escape.

First off, huge props for this extremely well plotted storyline. I can't say that I've read anything like it before which made it even more thrilling and absorbing to read. When I think of Alaska, I always associate it with the harsh frigid cold, but it's a place I've always been intrigued with. While I do wish we got to spend a little more time in the village and see more about how the clan lived, it turned out not to be relevant to the storyline and Plum still managed to do an incredible job bringing this world to life with her crisp storytelling and refreshing characters.

Well I'm impressed! This book has a lot more to offer then what I originally thought. I don't want to say to much plot-wise since I think other readers will enjoy everything this book has to offer, but I will say that this is more in the fantasy genre with psychic connections then the apocalyptic theme that I was lead to believe. Which isn't a bad thing. It's cleverly deceptive, unpredictable and even shocking and I really loved Plum's concept about Yara and how it ties with spirituality, mother earth and natures goodness. It's a very fitting blend to Juneau's character and what makes her stand-out amongst other fictional characters.
The beginning of the story is absolutely fantastic. We have Juneau in crazed-survival mode trying to figure out what happened to her father, clan and mentor when she discovers that her village has been invaded and her people kidnapped. When she connects with Yara to find them, the riddle-like clues point her to Seattle.
When we meet Miles, he's being expelled from high school just months short of graduating and his chances at Yale are growing slimmer and we soon learn the reason why he's involving himself with tracking down Juneau. And when Juneau and Miles finally do meet up, it's quite amusing to see how these two very different characters clash. But...as the story keeps unfolding on to what feels like a long journey to find Juneau's people, we hit some pockets in the pacing that tended to drag out a little bit to long. Mind you, I was still very much absorbed and invested with the book, but after awhile apart of me was more then ready for some answers. Sadly by the time we get a little information as to what's going on, we're back on the chase moving further from the real truth. It makes the plot gripping, yes, but it also makes it quite maddening to go so far and still be left with doubts and questions on top of a riveting yet evil cliff-hanger of an ending.

There really isn't a whole lot of characters here besides Juneau and Miles, but they both completely owned it and made the entire experience worth the read.
Juneau is a character that simple amazed me. She just found out that her whole life has been a fabricated lie and she feels betrayed angry and hurt. She started to doubt everything she's ever known and I can see why trusting anyone at this point would be difficult. But through it all we watch Juneau and her mystical talents to connect with Yara, Read/Conjure and see her strength, passion and determination  leap right off the pages. She's gotz fight and flare that you can't help cheer for.
Miles on the other hand doesn't have the best intentions when he went looking for a girl with a starburst in one eye, and made it painfully obvious that he thinks Juneau and her crazy delusions are nothing more then the rantings of a hippie-lunatic on the run. I'm not going to lie, Miles disbelief makes him seem like a real ass. His patronizing, flippant and taunting behaviour seemed almost harsh at the time, but in a strange way, it was also pretty reasonable and even expected. If it were me, I'm not sure I'd believe Juneau either. Still, it was pretty easy to fall for Miles right from the start. It was fun being inside his head and I couldn't help myself from laughing during his hysterical moments that ranged from questioning his insanity and fearing for his life. Loved his quick wit and sarcastic comedy.
When together, I felt like this is where Juneau and Miles are the most strongest plot-wise and storytelling. While I do like them individually, they shine more when united. There is really no romance in this installment, but we did get a few moments that were sweet. But who needs romance when the bickering banter, stubborn confidence and playful energy is all we needed for true entertainment. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their quirky partnership that needed the necessary baby steps to be able to connect them on a deeper level. From tolerating, compromise, accepting, admiration, attraction and finally affection, Juneau and Miles were truly undeniable every step of the way.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book. After the End is a promising start to what I believe will be a stunningly fascinating series. I may have had a couple minor issues, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the experience as a whole. I have a lot of questions and Amy Plum as some 'splainin to do, so I can't wait to get the next installment in my greedy little hands. Smart, unique and compelling. I need more!

Review: If I Should Die (Revenants, #3) by Amy Plum

If I Should Die (Revenants, #3)If I Should Die (Revenants, #3) by Amy Plum
Publisher: Harper Teen
Expected Publication: May 7, 2013
Hardcover, Pages: 407
B&N / Amazon
I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.

Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.

It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.

After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

My Thoughts
IF I Should Die is the last book in the Revenants trilogy. Being a huge fan after reading Die For Me, I couldn’t wait to have that final copy in my hands and find out how this journey was going to end. I wanted to know what was going to happen to Vincent and the other revenents I had come to love. Of course I loved this story, but there were a few things that kept me at a 4.5 snowflake rating. The predictability was somewhat a hindrance. I love to be kept guessing, but when the storyline feels so mapped out the excitability decreases. Not to say that this wasn’t at all a fabulous book. I just didn’t experience that in the first two books. The other that chipped away at my rating was that fact that some of the scenes felt contrived. Being the final book, tying up loose ends is important. I just felt pieces were predictable and forced.
This story picks up where Kate is on the bridge and she thought she heard Vincent’s voice. Violette was determined to gain the power of the Champion. Little did Violette know, the smart and determined Kate would stop at nothing to get back the man she loved. I admire the fierceness that Kate displayed. She’s always been an awesome protagonist, and clever as well. One character that I looked forward to was Kate’s sister Georgia. She cracked me up and I just get a kick out of her. And of course, I just love Jules. He’s sweet and just an awesome character. I have a soft spot for him.
The story gets pretty intense as they seek a way to free Vincent from Violette’s hold. New characters emerge and a secret is revealed involving Jean Baptiste. Bran played a vital role throughout this story and I would love to learn more about the guerisseurs and their history. I found them to be fascinating.
As their journey unfolds, a battle ensues. Said battle was awesome! I thought it was well played and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I was truly satisfied. I bounced with excitement as Charlotte gets her HEA, and everything was tied up nicely at the end. There were loses and new loves found. I will forever adore this trilogy and I truly hope that one day Ms Plum will consider doing a spin off. There are just so many avenues to expand on. Until then, I will treasure this trilogy that I have grown so fond of and keep them on my favorite’s shelf.
Overall I gave this a rating of 4.5 snowflakes.

Review: Until I Die by Amy Plum

Until I Die (Revenants, #2)
Until I Die by Amy Plum
Publication Date: May 8, 2012
Publisher: Harper Collins Publishers
Kate and Vincent have overcome the odds and at last they are together in Paris, the city of lights and love.

As their romance deepens there’s one question they can’t ignore: How are they supposed to be together if Vincent can’t resist sacrificing himself to save others? Although Vincent promises that he’ll do whatever it takes to lead a normal life with Kate, will that mean letting innocent people die? When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent’s immortality is in jeopardy.

In Die for Me, Amy Plum created a captivating paranormal mythology with immortal revenants and a lush Paris setting. Until I Die is poised to thrill readers with more heart-pounding suspense, spellbinding romance, and a cliff-hanger ending that will leave them desperate for the third and final novel in the series.
My Thoughts:
Absolutely loved this!If I don’t get my hands on If I Should Die (revenents, #3) soon, I may be another casualty of a broken heart. Until I Die was everything I had hoped it to be and more. Amy Plum has yet again surpassed my expectations.

“Every time I need a hit of joy, I think about you. You are my solace, Kate. Just knowing that you are in this world, everything makes sense.”

The story picked up from where we were left off in Die For Me. Now Charlotte and Charles were moving from La Maison so he could get away from Paris and the memories of what happened. Charlotte and Kate had grown close and the sadness of her departure was felt. It was New Year’s Eve and the twins’ moving party. Two newcomers would arrive to take their place; Enter Violette de Montauban and Arthur Poincare. During the party Kate learns that Vincent is Jean-Baptiste’s second. Kate and Vincent seek a way for him to resist death. When Vincent begins showing negative results to assuage the need to die, Kate takes matters into her own hands and begins searching for another way. Following a lead from a book she found in her grandfather’s study, she found a guerisseur, which according to the text could heal and see auras.
Kate hadn’t gotten a very good opinion of Arthur who came across a little cold. Since he requested she leave a revenant meeting, Kate developed sour feelings toward him.

“You might be from a time when humans were looked down on by beings like yourself. A time when men were the only ones considered smart enough to educate”—I gestured toward his pile of books—“and girls like Violette had to have protectors. But this is the twenty-first century. And I’ve got this”—I pulled out the signum and held it up for him to see—“that says I’m kindred. And I’ve got this”—I pointed to my head—“That says I’m as smart as you. And I have this”—I held up my middle finger—“that says go to hell, you immortal bigot.”

It was so easy to immerse myself right back into the world of Kate and Vincent. I had forgotten how attached to the characters I had become, so when I entered back into this installment and the lives of the revenants, I was totally hooked and I didn’t want it to end.

Kate and Vincent had both been holding back secrets and I’m so glad she decided before they could move forward and be together body and soul, they needed to be honest with each other. I enjoyed watching Kate turn into a strong protagonist and fight for the relationship she and Vincent have. It wasn’t an easy path, but her determination surpassed any other emotions and focused on what she wanted most.

One of the kindred has leaked information to the numa and they are after Kate. But finding out who the perpetrator was, wasn’t only shocking, it was maddening. I was totally caught off-guard. I swore I knew who it was and when the truth was presented, I was in awe.

Until I Die, ends off on a cliffy, folks. I had tears in my eyes and all I wanted, was to have that next book in my hands. This was an astounding story and I absolutely cannot wait to see what will transpire in If I Should Die.

"Here you go." Vincent handed me a towel and kissed the top of my head. "Not that I don't think you're totally hot when you' with sweat," he whispered, giving me a flirty wink.

"But Vincent made me an offer I couldn't refuse. He promised not to die. At least, not on purpose. Which goes against every fiber of is un-being. Revenants' compulsion to die when saving their precious human "rescues" is more than enticing and powerful than a drug addiction. But Vincent thinks he can hold out. For me."

Die For Me (Revenants, #1) by Amy Plum

Die for Me (Revenants, #1)
Rating: 5 Snowflakes

What a great surprise! Not only is the cover beautiful, but the story within is absolutely wonderful! An amazing fresh YA/Supernatural romance that will capture you and make you crave more!

This story is about Kate Beaumont Mercier, a 16 year old who is struggling with the recent death of her parents. Georgia, Kate’s sister, decides that it would be best for them to move to Paris and live with their late fathers parents. Kate turns into an agoraphobic mess. She spends her time in museums, cinemas and small café’s to avoid being around people. Sitting in one of her chosen café’s, Kate notices someone staring at her from across the terrace and the world froze around her when their eyes met.

As the story unfolds into this beautiful masterpiece that Amy Plum has written, Kate falls for this beautiful, undead-guardian-angel type, Vincent. Kate’s world is about to change and she has to make a decision whether to maintain her self-preservation or go-for-it and move into a world of romance, love and the unknown.

The setting is set in Paris, the City of light. Amy has submitted so much knowledge of landmarks and scenes into this story and it makes you feel as if you are there. The secondary characters are so amazing! I fell in love with the humor they bring and the tight knit friendships they have. It is one big dysfunctional family and you will love what they bring to the story. (One in particular) The writing is easy to follow and flows just right.

This book has so much all rolled into one. I couldn’t put this book down! It is a MUST READ.
