RT Convention!!

I have to say that the best place for a book nerd is a book convention.  Imagine walking down rows and rows of authors waiting just to meet you and sign their book for you!  I mean come on can we say nerd heaven??!!  Well that is where I was this past weekend.  I hopped my bookies on a plane and traveled to Chicago to lose myself in the sea of books and authors.  It was fantastic!!
I planned ahead and was lucky enough to snag a hotel room at the Hyatt where the convention was held.  When I walked through the doors of the hotel I about fainted because walking not 2 feet from me was Melissa Marr!  She wasn't the only one I saw either just walking around like normal people.  In my head authors should all have bodyguards and be protected from the screaming masses because I mean lets face it they are rock stars!  I was starstruck to say the least.
Okay back to my timeline here.  Friday my BF and I checked in, saw a movie (Hunger Games which is amazing!!), and then just kept a watch out for all our favorite authors.  Saturday was our big convention day.  The book signing started at 11 a.m. and we got inline at 9 behind about 250 other people and I am not exaggerating in the slightest.  I thought we would be the first in line but other people had the same idea we did.  I guess though putting over 300 authors in one room will make you do crazy things lol.  When they finally let us in it was magical.  I really wanted to see JR Ward but unfortunately we didn't get in line soon enough and they only handed out a certain number of bracelets to see her =(  I think everybody we talked to wanted to meet her.  Even though I was bummed about that I did get to meet a ton of other amazing and awesome authors!  I really expected there to be mass chaos but it wasn't too bad.  I saw Jennifer Armentrout first and she is so sweet!  She signed my Nook and personalized Obsidian for Amber.  She also was wonderful enough to take pictures with both me and my BF.  From there we saw Veronica Roth, Kelley Armstrong, Melissa Marr, and so many many more that I have completely lost count.
After the signing we had some time to relax before the Entangled Candy and Spoons party, so we bought lunch and not wanting a repeat of the behind the line fiasco we staked out the party room and planted ourselves in front so we would get prime seats.  While we were waiting we met several awesome people and authors one of which was Coreene Callahan.  She has a debut book out right now called Fury of Fire and gave the few of us waiting a copy!  It looks really good and I am so in awe of her for being so awesome.   By the time the room was set up and we went in the room was standing room only.  Crazy right!!  This party turned out to be a complete bloodbath!  When you walked in you had to pick a table with an author, I was lucky enough to sit with Jennifer Armentrout squee!, and 9 other book nerdies like yourself.  In the middle of the table was a set of books that included Onyx, yes Onyx, Pretty Amy, West of Want, Queen of Swords, Out in the Blue, Radiant Desire, and Bare Naked Lola.  One winner would win the whole set.  The catch was we had to play spoons.  I have never played this game before and I will now have nightmares from playing it.  You put that many books in front of nine woman and OMG you better watch out!  Jennifer elbowed her friend in the face, my BF got clawed, and I literally fell out of my chair.  I still have bruises up and down both my arms where the chair legs caught me!  In the end it was down to me and my battle buddy, you know who you are =D  It was such an intense game, but guess what I WON!  My battle buddy put up a good fight!  I am still in shock that I won all 7 books!  And yes I have already read Onyx and all I have to say at this point in time is Daemon + a cookie + his mouth = PHWOAR!!
After warrior spoons we attended the Teen Party and got to mingle with a few authors.  Everyone was so nice!
Sunday came way too soon and we headed home.  It was definitely one of the best weekends ever.  I got to see my BF who I haven't seen in almost 9 years and got to mingle with some of my favorite authors.  If you ever have a chance to go to any convention/author signing I say GO GO GO!  They are so much fun and I promise you will have the time of your life!
I am already planning for next year!
Here are a few of the pictures that I took while I was there...

My pretty Nook covered all signed =)

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Publisher: Henry Holt & Co
Release Date: June 5, 2012

Summary Blurb (GR):
Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.
Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.
Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha…and the secrets of her heart.

My Thoughts:
I absolutely, totally, and completely loved this book!  It was everything I want in a Fantasy novel and more.

I will start with the characters.  They were in one word amazing.  I really felt what Alina struggled with and I really rooted for her.  Mal was great too, I loved his scenes at the end.  The Darkling, which by the way I love that word, was one of my favorites.  I know there are reasons why he shouldn't be and I am totally Team Mal, but yeah there is just something about him that kept me glued to the pages creepiness and all.  I never knew who was on her side and I am still not convinced that her friends were really her friends, but I guess I will have to wait and find out the truth.
The story was so intriguing.  I thought the author really hit a home run with the storyline and I would love a prequel to see exactly what happened all those years ago when the Fold was created.  The Fold is one of the scariest places I have ever read about.  Imagine being blind and then feeling the claws of a monster.  Yeah scary!  I also had no problem envisioning the setting.  I usually have a hard time with this in fantasy books but this was so well written that I could picture every place.  I loved the idea of Grisha!  What a unique idea.  Fantasy needs magic and the author did a fantastic job weaving in her own magic throughout this amazing story.  I want so much more from this world and I really hope that this series sticks around for along time.

Overall this was a fantastic debut!  I cannot wait to get my hands on the next one!!
