Our Thoughts: 

Angel Eyes was a unique story paced for savoring. I rather enjoyed the fact that this wasn't a book chock full of crazy action and mud-slinging. Once in a while you come across a book that you can set down, later pick back up and fall back into the world the writer has created without going back through to refresh your memory. The characters were memorable and quite fascinating. I've read a handful of books with Angels etc, but non that were comparable to Angel Eyes. Of course, there's slight religious undertones, hence the word Angel. It was not forceful nor was it overbearing. It was paced with precision. With every day, there is a night. With every good, there is a bad. It's balance, it's what makes the world go round. In this case, the dark menacing Damien, was sent back to the front lines to redeem himself, and follow the the scent of despair and prove himself to the Syrian King.

The characters in Angel Eyes, were very interesting. There's the protagonist, Brielle, which I seemed to really like. I felt she was relateable and given her circumstances, felt very real. Conveniently, living next door to Brielle, is Jake. Wow, loved this character. He was written with a good personality and very likeable. Of course the secondary characters played a vital role, but they were written well.

The story was written in multiple POV's. It was okay, but the tense changed between the characters which threw me off a little. I thought this was very crafty and original with many twists throughout. I found that the celestial and terrestrial planes were interesting (I'm not going to spoil it for you, so that's all your getting out of me)

Overall, I found Angel Eyes, to be a smooth paced, fascinating read. It's content is worthy of applause. A well written story of Angels, good vs evil, and a slow budding romance.

My Thoughts:

A Must Read!! Taste is a fresh and enticing story. Kate Evangelista is one fresh voice to be on the lookout for. Her writing is supurb, witty and engaging.

Looking at the cover itself, I was intrigued but once you nestle into your comfy reading spot and settle into the story, you will be whisked away into a whole new realm. That's a major reason we read, right? To be taken away to another place and time, live vicariously through someone else. This story was easily the escape I looked for.

The characters were written with great depth and detail. It was easy to picture them as we learned more about each and every one. Phoenix is the protagonist in Taste. She bends the rules and doesn't shy away. She was such a strong character and easily liked. I appreciated the fact that she wasn't a damsel in distress or a big chicken when things got tough or scary. I loved Demitri! He seemed dark, alluring and mysterious but I just knew he was packed with major hotness. Two gorgeous prince's...need I say more?

The evil plotting Vladimir, adds angst, and twists of deception. The rest of the secondary characters fit in perfectly. I liked the whole cast.

The story takes place at Barinkoff Night Academy, which is a mystery all in it's own. The storyline was fresh and unique. There is enough tension, mystery and heat all wrapped into one fantastic tasty story and will leave you wanting more, no doubt.

I would recommend this without a doubt.

Kathleen Peacock is a mad genius. Hemlock is definitely one of the best books I have read this year and I am in awe of Ms. Peacock.

My goodness it is hard to start a review for this! I don’t even know where to start. If you have read the summary then you know the gest of what this book is about but don’t think for a second you know it all. There are so many twists and turns thrown in that I never knew who to trust and at one point I had condemned everybody, even Mac herself. That to me makes for a great story when you start to even doubt the main heroine. I don’t even know why I doubted her but I just thought this book is crazy enough to go in that direction. I love a story with secrets and this one definitely had it’s fill. I loved the parts with Amy, Mac’s BFF who died from a werewolf attack. She would pop up in Mac’s dreams and she was so creepy and I can’t think of the right word but she always left me shuddering when her scene was over. It was so brilliant of the author to throw all that in. It showed Mac that not everything was as it seemed without giving too much of the story away.

The romance in this book was subtle and I liked that. I at first wanted more heat but as the story progressed I saw that it was a good thing that it took a backseat. The story itself was beyond good enough to carry the characters without a heavy romance. I am a little worried about a triangle but I am hoping that Mac doesn’t disappoint us and stays strong and loyal to one particular boy. I won’t spoil it but I loved this boy and I really hope they get their HEA.

One more thing that ending! OMG was that mind blowing! I knew there was a sequel but I didn’t expect my heart to be ripped out!  I had to read that last chapter twice to make sure I read it right! Plus that last scene with Amy gave me goosebumps! I don’t know how I am going to survive waiting for the sequel!

30 Days of Daemon Tour: Music that reminds us of Daemon

Welcome to the next stop on the 30 Days of Daemon tour!  We are so very excited to participate and share a few songs that remind us of the sexiness that is Daemon. If you know Daemon then I am sure this one is pretty explanatory.  I mean if you look up sexy in the dictionary there would be a picture of Daemon beside the word. So in our book he definitely brought the sexy back =P

Now if anybody could get Kat to go skinny dippin it would be Daemon, nuff said...

3. Iris by The GooGoo Dolls
We know Daemon is all hard core and confidant but he does have a soft side and this song really hits home for us.

4. Run by Matt Nathanson ft. Sugarland
There is a part in Onyx that we can't spoil, but after you read it we promise you will look at this song and think OMG it totally fits.  When I heard it on the radio I had to stop, buy the song, and play it about 100 times because it just fits Kat and Daemon perfectly---We couldn't find this one to put on our playlist so if you click on the song title it will take you to youtube and you can listen =)

5. ET by Katy Perry
Come on you knew we would pick this one.  I don't think we need to explain why =D

Wow just wow! I am totally stunned that Heather Anastasiu managed to take a story that I have read a thousand times and make it new and exciting. I am completely blown away in a very very good way.
 
This story is amazing. I got completely lost in the wonderful storytelling and I really felt like nothing was left out. That is a hard thing to say because usually I can always find one area where I wanted or needed to know more but this author did an amazing job at informing the reader and building a world with her words. This whole dystopian genre needed a facelift and my gawd Heather Anastasiu has definitely accomplished this by giving us the reader a whole new level of fresh ideas. Okay moving on from my fangirling.

The story is about Zoel and basically she is a drone along with every other person inside her community. Back in the day the world exploded in a way and a group of leaders decided to implant certain hardware into humans making them behave in a calm like manner and never able to experience any kind of emotions. People though this was the answer and that their new world would be a better place. Zoel thought this too until she started glitching. Glitching is when the human or really drone starts feeling and thinking for themselves. This is anomal and anyone experiencing these malfunctions is supposed to report to the authorities. Zoel did not do this and as you can guess all hell breaks loose in her life. Especially after finding out there are other glitchers you haven't been turned in either. The author does an amazing job at showing the reader exactly how this world functions. She gives reasons and explanations for everything. I could not have asked for anything more.

The characters were awesome as well. I really loved reading from Zoel's point of view and I have to say that I did see a certain twist coming but I didn't see all of it. I am shocked at one characters decisions but I think he will make for a brilliant villain because the best kind of villain is an obsessed stalker am I right?? Adrien was an awesome male hero and I am very excited to see where his story goes. The only thing that I would have wanted to change a tad was the romance. I wish it would have built a little slower, but in the end I can totally understand why the author chose to have it go the way she did.

Would I recommend this book?? That would be a big HALE yes! If you are looking for a fresh dystopian book among all the others you will not be disappointed with this one!

“I thought I'd teach you a dance from where I come from,” I tell him. “One that's much easier than that multi-step mess inside.”

My Thoughts:

Dark Frost is packed full of action, suspense, mythology, mystery and romance! I loved Dark Frost! The Mythos Academy will keep you on your toes. Gwen Frost, the protagonist, can work a sword, kick some Reapers derriere, solve a mystery and lip-lock the hottest guy in the Academy.

Dark Frost is the third installment to the Mythos Academy series and a MUST READ.

Gwen is back and has a mission to find the Helheim Dagger, which her mother hid so the evil Reapers couldn't get their nasty little hands on. As Nike's Champion, Gwen has a target on her back. She won't stop until she finds out who the mysterious Reaper girl is who killed her mother. The Reapers want to Helheim Dagger and Gwen to free the most evil of the Gods, Loki. With the help of the Mythos staff, a furry friend and Mythos students, Gwen survives an awful attack, learns more about herself and her powers than ever before.

There is no question whether you should read this series or not. It will easily become a favorite. The pulse-pounding action and chemistry wound into one fantastically written story will make you crave for the next installment, Crimson Frost (January, 2013).

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed this book!  Sometimes it is nice to escape all the triangles, instalove, and sparkly creatures of the night and just read a book about a boy trying to find his sister.  Swipe definitely delivers a strong story and for once I can honestly say boys and girls both will love this one.

Logan is thirteen and about to be Marked.  Basically that means that he can now work, go to the grocery store, and well do what most adults do now.  Most look at being Marked as something exciting and just part of everyday life, but for Logan it is terrifying.  You see his sister left one morning to be Marked and never came back.  After meeting the new girl in school, Erin, unimaginable things start happening and Logan learns that maybe his being paranoid wasn't such a bad thing after all.

That is basically the story with a few things left out because well I don't want to give anything away.  I will tel you that the characters were all really well written and I loved the ending.  It is not perfect but it was very true to the characters and I give the author major kudos for going the hard route.  This book will definitely appeal to all ages.  Yes it is middle grade, but the suspense and overall mystery kept me glued to the last page.  I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment!!

Jus Accardo Stops By!!!

We are so, so very excited to have Jus Accardo on the Blog today! Thank you, Jus, for visiting Winterhavenbooks!

Oh the weather outside is frightful… But the books are so delightful!

I know, I know. Wrong season—but go with me on this one.

Okay so here’s the scenario. You go to bed one night and when you look out the window, you see the hint of flurries. This is odd because, well, it’s MAY. But you just go with it. These are magic flurries. Yeah. Let’s go with that. Magic flurries. I like that. When you wake up the next morning, you find that those flurries have turned the outside world into a winter wonderland. There’s two feet of snow and falling, the roads are impassable, and there’s plenty of hot chocolate. What do you do all day?

Duh. You read!

We get some pretty wicked storms out here during the winter. To make matters worse, I live in the middle of nowhere and have the driveway from hell. Like, we’re talking an almost 90% angle. Totally terrifying. So when it snows like that, I’m house bound—and happy to be so.

Here’s a list of books I’d happily devour if stuck at home riding out the storm.

Bitten - Kelley Armstrong—I could read this book a thousand times. Why? Two words for you. Clayton Danvers. Don’t get me wrong, I love Elena, but Clay is the reason I’ve read this book, like, a million times. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you need to find out.

My thoughts:
I think every teenage girl should read this book.  I can remember being sixteen and thinking the world was going to end if a boy didn't like me or if my friends were mad at me when in reality things like that aren't as important as other things.
In this story Clem has to set sail with her family for three months.  This means not having any contact with her friends via cell phone or computer.  Normally this would be a huge inconvenience for Clem and she would have begged and pleaded with her parents to let her stay at home, but since things with her friends have gone south she is left with no other option but to join her family.  Something huge happened between Clem and her BFF and when I say big I mean BIG for a sixteen year old girl.  You remember being that age how awkward it was right?? Well Clem commits the ultimate sin between girlfriends and learns the hard way what is important in life.  So begins her summer on the water and it is definitely a bumpy ride.
I really enjoyed this book and I wish that I had it when I was sixteen.  There are wonderful life lessons throughout this book and I loved it to pieces.  Melissa did a wonderful job unraveling Clem's story and my heart broke for her several times.  I could totally feel her pain when she let everything out and I just wanted to hug her and tell her it would be alright.  Clem is definitely one of my favorite characters.  She owned up to what was her fault and the growth that she shows by the end of the book was just amazing.  I have high hopes for her and her BFF, Amanda.  I also really loved Olive her sister and James the boy see meets while sailing.  They were fantastic additions to this story and I loved them both to pieces for being there for Clem.
Please read this book you won't regret it and if you have a teenage daughter hand this to them, they need it I promise.

My thoughts:
This book right here is romance at its best. You know when you read a spicy book there are always “those” words that just make you cringe?? You know the ones that for some reason every romance writer thinks we women love to read but in reality just make us cringe and giggle thinking how in the hale is that sexy?? Puckered comes to mind first not to mention well okay I am just not going to go there but you get my drift. Anyway this book delivers all that hawt and spiciness without being cringeworthy! WOOHOO!! Finally a book geared toward romantics who need a little spice in their world! Bravo Ms.Lynn!

Madison and Chase were awesome characters. From the very beginning I loved their relationship and the way they just fought for what they wanted. The whole growing up together thing was pretty awesome as well. It sorta gave them a whole other level of understanding towards each other. I am a huge sucker for weddings so the setting was amazing as well. I really got caught up in that whole part of the book.

I just don’t know what to say except that I am so happy that Jennifer has decided to write for this genre because it really needed her. I loved loved loved the whole story! I am gushing I know but really what else did you expect??!! Now we need Chad and Chandlers stories!!

Amber's review:

A refreshing unique dystopian about vampires-what's not to love! The Immortal Rules, has the power to pull you in. Taking place about sixty years after a virus has killed off most of the world's human population. The characters were compelling. I loved the protagonist Allison, she's a tough survivor in a very cruel world, staying true to who she is and what she stands for. When facing death, she had a tough decision to make-one she swore she would never become. She feared she would never lose her humanity, it's the driving force behind many of her actions. Learning to embrace what she is and who she will be wasn't an easy task. With every great story, comes a hero who adds a special flavor to the story. The loved the chemistry between Zeke and Allison. The ending tugged at my heart. On one side, I wish we could have seen what would have happened had she not left, but on the other I'm excited to see what's going to transpire when she finds Kanin.

Adventure, action, a sort of darkness beneath it all, a beautiful chemistry and an ending that makes you crave for the next chapter in the story.

Holey Majoley! Ms.Kawaga is fearless with her characters! I have read books where the author has let some of the fan favorites die but I have never read a book where you never knew who to get attached to because every time you turned the page someone died until now.
I have come to really appreciate not remembering the summary of a book I want to read. I went into this not really knowing what it was about and that turned out to be an awesome thing. I never saw any of the twists coming especially those in the beginning and I loved it! I don’t even want to give a summary of the book in my review because not knowing was so awesome that I hope more people do that and I don’t want to give anything away.
I have read the authors other series and I liked it but I wasn’t too interested in it but this one has gotten me beyond interested. I want to know more about this creepy vampire world!
Allison and Kanin are definitely 2 of my favorite characters. I loved how she tried to hold onto her humanity and tried to be stronger than the monster inside of her. Kanin was just amazing and even though I don’t think there can be anything romantic between the 2 I really hope we get to see a happy ending for him. Some of Kanin's quotes were amazing and really rang of what a vampire actually is. He didn’t romanticize the monsters that they actually are and that was a very nice refreshing change of pace because lets face in vampires are supposed to be scary.
I loved this book and I cannot wait for the next installment. The author did a fantastic job at bringing the everyday vampire back to something that should be feared and I give her major kudos for that!
